This year the haw berries (from the hawthorn tree) were out in huge numbers, like so many other fruit. Perhaps it was as a result of the unusually warm spring but the trees were literally weighed down with them. Haw berries, like roes hips are a fantastic source of vitamin C and like rose hips they don’t taste too good straight off the bush. But boil them down with some sugar and water and you can make a delicious jelly!
